Oakland — Only one of the schools in the district has complete locker rooms ready for use, the Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education announced at its Oct. 24 meeting.

Business Administrator Frank Ceurvels said the overhaul of the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms at Ramapo High School had been completed and received clearance for use while the overhaul of those rooms at Indian Hills remained incomplete.

Ceurvels said the Indian Hills component had not been completed under contract parameters and the board would be terminating its agreement with contractor Viaco Construction Corp., of Aberdeen.

The board awarded a contract of $426,800 to Viaco for the work in June.

Per an Oct. 24 the board approved, the district had sent notices to Viaco on Aug. 12, Aug. 26 and Oct. 18 stating that it was in default. Ceurvels said that about 60 percent of the work had been completed at the time of termination. He said that the obligation to complete the project would now fall to a bonding company.
